Mexican Spice

This Mexican mix will have you singing Olé! Olé! Olé! all the way to the spice rack. Blending your own Mexican spice means that you can measure once, and cook several times, adding bountiful flavour to your dishes without juggling countless jars, especially when you’re trying to whip up a quick Mexican meal.

This Mexican spice recipe packs a punch, and can easily turn some bland beans into something a little more exciting. We love to use this spice to season our chilli, taco mince, stews and chicken dishes. Pre-make your spice and keep it stored in a glass jar in the spice cupboard for when you need it!

Note: you might like to go easy on the chilli, especially if you often find yourself cooking for kids. It’s easy enough to add more chilli later.

What you will need:

1-2 tbs (depending on how spicy you want to make it) chilli powder

2 tbs dried oregano

2 tbs cumin seeds

2 tbs coriander seeds

1/2 tbs garlic powder

2 tbs paprika

1 tbs cinnamon

1/2 tbs salt (optional)

1 tbs pepper

Blitz all the ingredients together in a grinder or high powered blender until the mixture turns into a well blended powder. Store in an airtight jar or container.
